US President Donald Trump’s oxygen level “dropped rapidly” on Friday morning, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows told Fox News. Also, the President was administered oxygen before he was taken to Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre on Friday, a person familiar with the events told the Associated Press.
This is juxtaposed to the rosy picture his doctors painted while giving an update on the President’s health on Saturday.
Trump announced on Friday that he and the First Lady Melania Trump had tested positive for COVID-19.
“President Trump continues to do well, having made substantial progress since diagnosis,” Navy Commander Dr Sean Conley said in a statement on Saturday.
“Thursday no oxygen. None at this moment. And yesterday with the team, while we were all here, he was not on oxygen,” the doctor said.
He further said that the 74-year-old has completed his second dose of Remdesivir on Saturday evening without any complication, and is not requiring supplemental oxygen.
“While not yet out of the woods, the team remains cautiously optimistic,” he added.
Meanwhile, Trump released a video on Saturday, apprising the US and the world over his health.
“I came here, wasn’t feeling so well. I feel much better now,” the President said in his video message.
“We’re working hard to get me all the way back… I think I’ll be back soon and I look forward to finishing up the campaign the way it was started.”

While saying he was “starting to feel good,” the septuagenarian expressed uncertainty over the course of the disease.
“You don’t know over the next period of a few days, I guess that’s the real test, so we’ll be seeing what happens over those next couple of days,” the President said.
