India recorded 348,421 cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the nation’s tally of coronavirus infection to 23,340,938. The death toll from COVID-19 in India has now jumped to 254,197 after 4,205 people died across the nation on Tuesday. 

There are currently 3,704,099 active cases of coronavirus in India and the tally of recovered infections now stands at 19,382,642 in the nation. A total of 355,338 people recovered from the COVID-19 infection in India on Tuesday. 

The Indian Council of Medical Research on Wednesday said 1,983,804 samples for COVID-19. As of May 11, 307,583,991 samples for COVID-19 have been tested in India, the ICMR said.

Since the mass vaccination drive against COVID-19 was kicked off in India on January 16, more than 17,52,35,991 people have received at least one of the two doses of vaccine. The Centre on May 1 opened up vaccination for all adults.

Currently, two vaccines — Covaxin and Covishield — are being administered in India. The former is the indigenous jab developed at Hyderabad’s Bharat Biotech. Covishield is AstraZeneca/Oxford’s jab that is being manufactured at the Pune-based Serum Institute. A third vaccine, Russia’s Sputnik V, has also been approved by India’s drug regulator for emergency use.
