India on Wednesday recorded 41,806 new COVID-19 cases, the Union Health Ministry‘s data released on Thursday showed. This has brought the total tally to reach 30,987,880. As many as 581 COVID-19 patients died in the past 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 411,989.

There are 432,041 active cases in the country, while 30,143,850 have recovered, including 39,130 people who recovered on Wednesday.
As many as 438,011,958 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus till July 14, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). This includes 1,943,488 samples tested on Wednesday.
India started its mass vaccination drive against coronavirus on January 16. As per the latest count, 391,340,491 vaccine doses have been administered.
Four COVID-19 vaccines are currently being administered in the country. They are AstraZeneca’s Covishield, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, Russia’s Sputnik V and Moderna’s shot.

After being severely hit by the second wave starting April, India is getting some respite from the pandemic. However, experts have warned that the third wave will hit the country in August-September.
India is the second-worst hit country by the pandemic. With over 33.9 million cases and 608,104 deaths, the US remains the worst-it. India is followed by Brazil that has recorded over 19.2 million cases and 537,394 deaths, as per Johns Hopkins University’s tally.

The first case of the novel coronavirus was reported in late 2019 in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province. Since then, the virus has globally infected over 188.3 million people and killed more than four million of them.
