India on Monday recorded 42,640 new cases of COVID-19 that pushed the tally to reach 29,977,861, the Union Health Ministry’s data released on Tuesday showed. With 1,167 more deaths, the toll has reached 389,302.
There are 662,521 active cases, while 28,926,038 have recovered.

As many as 394,072,142 samples have been tested for SARS-CoV-2, commonly known as the novel coronavirus, as of June 21. This includes 1,664,360 samples tested on Monday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

India started its COVID vaccination drive on January 16. As per the latest count, 288,766,201 people have received at least one of the two doses of the COVID vaccine.

The country administered a record 85 lakh vaccine doses on Monday. This happened on the same day as the revised vaccination policy came into effect. Under the policy, free vaccines are available to all adults and pre-registration on CoWIN app is no longer needed.
