India on Monday recorded 86,498 new COVID-19 cases, pushing its tally to 28,996,473, the Union Health Ministry’s data released on Tuesday showed. As many as 2,123 COVID patients died in the past 24 hours, bringing the toll to reach 351,309.

There are 1,303,702 active cases in the country and 27,341,462 have recovered.

As many as 368,207,596 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, till June 7. This includes 1,873,485 samples tested on Monday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

India started its mass vaccination drive against coronavirus on January 16. As per the latest count, 236,198,726 people have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced a revised vaccine policy as per which the states will no longer have to procure COVID-19 vaccines. The Centre will procure them and provide them for free to the states.
