India’s downward trend in new COVID-19 cases continued on Saturday, logging 22,270 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. The country reported 25,920 new cases on Friday, 14% more than today. 

In its daily health bulletin, the Union Health Ministry said 325 COVID-related deaths were recorded across the country in the last 24 hours. The fresh fatalities were also down from Friday’s tally, when 492 people died from the infection. India recorded 514 deaths on Thursday. 

With this, India tally of confirmed COVID cases climbed to 4,28,02,505, with the death toll standing at 5,11,230.

Active cases have declined by 38,353 to 2,53,739 and comprise 0.59% of the total caseload, the ministry bulletin confirmed. 

60,298 people recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking India’s total recovery tally to 4,20,37,536. The national recovery rate stands at 98.21%.

Data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed a total of 75,81,27,480 tests have been conducted up to Friday, February 18. 12,35,471 of them were conducted on Friday. 

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.07%, while the weekly positivity rate stands at 2.76%. 

India’s cumulative vaccination count has reached 1,75,03,86,834, after 36,28,578 doses were administered in the last 24 hours.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19. India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.
