Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases across the state of Maharashtra, lockdown has been imposed in certain areas in Thane, reported ANI. 16 areas have been identified as COVID-19 hotspots and lockdown has been imposed there, by Thane Municipal Corporation till March 31.

Areas identified as hotspots are Witwa, Ainagar, Suryanagar, Kharegaon area, while Chendni Koliwara, Wagle and Srinagar area in Circle One, Lodha Amara, Hiranandani Estate, Hiranandani Meadows Housing Complex and Lokmanya in Circle two. Hotspots in Savarkarnagar Ward Committee are Dostanagar, Shivai Nagar, Chorus Tower, Kolabad and Rustomji Vrindavan, reported Livemint.

All restrictions imposed during the nationwide lockdown, last year, will be put in place, PTI reported. Outside these hotspots, activities will be allowed as per relaxation given under ‘Mission Begin Again’ by the Maharashtra government.

As of Monday, Thane recorded 269,845 COVID-19 cases and 6,302 deaths.
