Maharashtra on Sunday recorded 57,074 new COVID-19 cases, highest since the pandemic began in March, last year. 222 people died in the last 24 hours, reported PTI. The fresh cases brought the state’s total tally to reach 3,010,597. The death toll has risen to 55,878.

There are 430,503 active cases in the state, while 2,522,823 have recovered.

Meanwhile, the capital Mumbai also recorded its highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases on Sunday. The city recorded 11,163 new virus cases and 25 deaths.

Till now, it has recorded 452,445 cases and 11,776 deaths.

Meanwhile, to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Maharashtra government on Sunday announced a weekend lockdown, which will be imposed from 8 pm on Friday till 7 am on Monday. Night curfews are imposed from  8 pm to 7 am on weekdays.
