Captain Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen have hit hundreds as South Africa scored 296 for 4 in 50 overs against India in the first ODI of a three-match series at Boland Park, Paarl on Wednesday.

The duo built a 204-run fifth-wicket partnership after South Africa suffered an early collapse. At one point in the game, the Proteas were 68 for 4 in 18 overs. Bavuma scored 110 while van der Dussen was unbeaten on 129, his highest score in the format. 31-year-old Bavuma hit eight fours while van der Dussen was aggressive in his approach. He hit nine fours and four sixes. 

Opting to bat
after winning the toss, South Africa got off to a disastrous start. Opener
Janneman was sent packing by Bumrah for just six runs. The next blow for South
Africa was Quinton de Kock’s dismissal. De Kock scored 27 as Ravichandran
Ashwin bamboozled him in the first delivery of the 16th over.

However, Bavuma
and van der Dussen put up a magnificent effort to stage the recovery for South
Africa.

It was due to their partnership South Africa recovered from the massive damage and set a daunting target for the visitors. van der Dussen consumed only 96 balls to score 129 runs after making a slow start.

India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets in 10 overs, conceding 48 runs.

While it was the maiden ODI hundred for van der Dussen,  Bavuma registered the second ton of his career against India.

Bavuma scored his maiden ODI ton against Ireland on debut in Benoni in 2016.

Ashwin gave 53
runs in his 10 overs. On the other hand, Shardul Thakur, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and
Yuzvendra Chahal did not get any success. They gave 72, 64 and 53 runs,
respectively.

Earlier, India
lost the three-match Test series against South Africa 2-1.
