The second Test between India and England at Lord’s noticed some of the intense cricketing moments between the two countries. First, it was KL Rahul‘s Test century, then it was Joe Root’s Test ton. These were followed by India’s fiery bowling on the third day to wrap up the English batting line-up. The fourth day saw a 100-run partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara. However, the best was saved for the last.

The fifth and final day of the second Test saw an amazing 9th wicket partnership between Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. The 50-run plus partnership not only kept a potent English bowling line-up at bay but also piled on the agony by scoring runs easily and extending India’s lead.

At the time of writing this article, Shami was on 40* off 54 balls and Bumrah was on 23* off 44 balls and India extended its lead to 240 runs.

Unlike other tail-enders innings, this particular batting performance by the Indian pacers was top notch. With perfect drives through the off side, and proper pull shots to counter the bouncers and occasional flicks on the leg side, both the Indian players kept the scoreboard ticking.

As the camera panned across the stadium with every shot, the Indian captain Virat Kohli could be seen pumping his fist in the air, acknowledging the batting display of both the players.

The England cricket team captain Joe Root was visibly upset as neither of his bowlers could break the partnership.

Before the end of the first session of the final day, James Anderson, who picked up five wickets in the first innings, was introduced in the bowling attack but could not give his captain the wicket he wanted.

“I like it, I like it,” said former India captain Sunil Gavaskar on-air as Bumrah prodded forward and defended a James Anderson ball.

It will be interesting to see how the match goes on from here as India will be aiming to take a 1-0 lead in the Test series by bowling out England when they come to bay in their second innings.
