An air ambulance from Nagpur to Hyderabad made an emergency landing at the Mumbai airport after its landing gear failed. The plane declared a full emergency after one of its wheels fell off, following which it was diverted to Mumbai, where it made a successful belly landing.

A Jet Serve Aviation C-90 Beechcraft VT-JIL aircraft was carrying two crew members, one doctor, one patient and a relative, news agency ANI reported. One of its wheels came off during take-off from Nagpur, and the plane had to be diverted to Mumbai.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) prepared an emergency response team for the landing of the aircraft. The team included fire and rescue responders, follow-me vehicles, CISF, medical team amongt others. 

The aircraft lost one of its wheels during take-off from Nagpur

The emergency response team was “activated instantly and on standby to provide immediate assistance to ensure the safe evacuation of the passengers,” the airport said in a statement. 

Officials foamed runway 27 of the Mumbai airport to prevent the aircraft from catching fire. 

As an added precautionary measure, officials also foamed runway 27 to prevent the plane from catching fire. “All passengers were evacuated safely and flights operating in and out of CSMIA remain on schedule,” the statement added.

Commending the efforts of the captain, Union Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “Showing presence of mind Capt Kesari Singh belly-landed the aircraft on foam carpeting in Mumbai. All onboard are safe. Commendable effort by DGCA, Mumbai Airport & other agencies.”
