At least seven people were killed in a fire in a multi-storeyed building in the New Kolighat building in Kolkata, which houses the zonal offices of Eastern and South-Eastern Railways on Monday.

Out of the deceased, four were firefighters, with the seventh victim yet to be identified, PTI reported quoting officials. The fire is now under control, the officials said. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the spot.

Here is all we know about the incident so far: 

1. A total of seven people have died so far, of whom, four are firefighters, one assistant sub-inspector posted at the Hare Street police station and one RPF personnel, Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Basu said. 

2. The seventh victim is yet to be identified. 

3. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the families and a government job to the kin of each victim.

4. The fire broke out at 6:10 pm on the 13th floor of the building, which also has a computerised ticket booking centre. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. 

5. The building is located on Strand Road, in the city’s central business district.
