Ahead of IPL 2022, MS Dhoni surprised
everyone when he announced that he would no longer be the captain of four-time IPL
champions Chennai Super Kings. Dhoni handed over the baton to long-time
teammate Ravindra Jadeja to oversee the transition as a player. CSK’s start
under their newly appointed captain Jadeja did not bring happiness to the
dressing room. They lost to KKR in the season opener and then in the second
game, in a high scoring match against Lucknow Super Giants, on Thursday, they
lost by six wickets.

In a high octane game on Thursday, Jadeja lost the toss but it mattered little in the game as it eventually ended as a close game
with three balls to spare. During the game, when batters of both sides made a
feast on the Brabourne pitch, taking advantage of the small boundary, there was
an unusual incident when former captain Dhoni was seen taking decisions while
Jadeja was standing in the deep as a fielder.

Dhoni, who is now 40, stunned everyone with
his act. Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja said that this is not a good sign
as Ravindra Jadeja is still new as a skipper and he needs time to settle down
as a leader of the side.

“It would have been better had this been
the last league game and with qualification on the line Dhoni making the calls.

expert I did not like it,” said Ajay Jadeja on Cricbuzz Live.

“If you have to develop someone you have to
leave them. He will only become a captain if he is allowed to lead. He will
learn only when he makes mistakes,” said Parthiv Patel on Cricbuzz Live.

At the post-match presentation ceremony,
after CSK lost by six wickets, Jadeja did not talk about Dhoni handling
captaincy. He instead blamed a few missed catches for the defeat.

“We had a good start, but in the fielding,
we have to take catches then you’ll win matches. We should have taken those
chances. There was a lot of dew, the ball wasn’t sticking to the hand. Next
time, we have to practise with the wet ball. We batted brilliantly in the
top-six and in the middle-overs. The wicket was very good to bat on. As a
bowling unit, we need to execute our plans,” Jadeja said at the post-match
