Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo overtook Michel Platini
as the leading goal scorer in the history of the European Championships.
Ronaldo now has 14 goals in 25 matches spread across five editions. The forward
achieved the milestone during his team’s opening match of the Euro 2020 against
Hungary in June 2021.

Ronaldo is playing in the European Championship since 2004,
having won the tournament in 2016. He made his Portugal debut in August 2003
and scored his first Euro goal in the 2004 edition at home. Apart from the 2016
title, he also has a runners-up medal from 2004, where his team lost to Greece
in the final.

France Platini’s nine goals came in a single edition in 1984
when he led the side to the title.
