On%20June%202%2C%20Malerkotla%20got%20formal%20approval%20from%20the%20Punjab%20Cabinet%20to%20become%20the%20state%27s%2023rd%20district.%20The%20creation%20of%20the%20district%20had%20been%20announced%20by%20Chief%20Minister%20Amarinder%20Singh.%20Singh%20made%20the%20announcement%20on%20the%20occasion%20of%20Eid-ul-Fitr%20on%20May%2014.%20The%20district%20will%20be%20carved%20from%20Punjab%27s%20Muslim-majority%20town%20from%20Sangrur%20district
Malerkotla%20district%20would%20now%20consist%20of%20three%20sub-divisions%20–Malerkotla%2C%20Ahmedgarh%20and%20Amargarh%2C%20according%20to%20an%20official%20statement.
A%20total%20of%20192%20villages%20will%20be%20included%20in%20Malerkotla%20district.
