Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, on Thursday, announced that all students of classes 5, 8 and 10 to be promoted to the next class without taking any examination. This announcement comes as India, on Wednesday, crossed the 2 lakh-figure mark in its daily count of COVID-19 cases.

“A decision on Class 12 PSEB exams, which have already been postponed, to be taken later based on the emerging situation,” the Punjab CMO added.

Punjab is not the first state to cancel or postpone examinations.

Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad, on Monday, said that board exams for class 10 and 12 in the state would be held later on in the months of May and June, respectively, due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.

Madhya Pradesh‘s school education department, on Wednesday, announced that the board exams for classes 10 and 12 have been postponed by a month and will start in the first week of June.

The Centre, on Wednesday, cancelled CBSE Class 10 board exams and postponed the exams for class 12 amid growing demands to put them on hold due to the rise in COVID-19 numbers.

Results of class 10 will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board.
