Asad Rauf, former ICC elite panel umpire who was banned by BCCI for his alleged involvement in the match-fixing controversy during the 5th edition of the Indian Premier League, now runs two shops in Landa Bazar, Lahore, selling second-hand apparel and crockeries.
During an interview with the Pakistani news channel, Paktv.tv, the 66-year-old said has no interest in the game of cricket anymore.
“Nahi, maine saari umar jab khud hi khila diye toh ab dekhna kisko hai. Maine 2013 ke baad cricket se bilkul hi…..kyunki mai jo kaam chhodta hu usko chhod hi deta hu (No, I’ve umpired in a lot many games all my life so there is no one left to see now. I have not been in touch with the game of cricket since 2013, because when I decide to leave something I leave it completely),” he told the channel.

When asked about the match-fixing allegations, he said, “I have spent my best time in IPL, apart from these issues that came later on. Unse mera toh koi lena dena tha hi nahi, wo unhi (BCCI) ki taraf se aaye aur unhone hi decision le liye (I had nothing to do with these issues, the allegations came from the BCCI’s side and they took the decision on me themselves).”

Asad Rauf was part of the ICC’s elite panel of umpires and officiated in 49 Tests, 98 ODIs, and 23 T20Is between 2000 and 2013.
However, things took an ugly turn when he was named in the 2013 IPL match-fixing scandal. BCCI’s disciplinary committee found him guilty of indulging in corrupt practices and banned him for 5 years in 2016.
