As 2022 progresses towards the business end, the Asia Cup 2022 is almost here too. One of the most illustrious tournaments out there, the 15th edition of the championship will showcase several top teams and players as it is being held after four years.
The previous edition of the tournament, which was organised in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) across two venues in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, turned out to be a blockbuster for the fans. India emerged victorious in the final by beating neighbours Bangladesh and Shikhar Dhawan was adjudged as the Player of the Series.

The tournament has not been organised since because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as the Asia Cup 2022 returns with much expectations, let’s find out its venues, schedule, list of participants, squads and more.
Overview
After a four-year-long hiatus, the Asia Cup 2022 is back and it will be organised in Sri Lanka. While a number of fans and pundits have expressed their doubts over the island nation’s ability to host a tournament of its stature due to the political and economic tensions in the country, Australia’s recent tour there have quashed all doubts.
However, reports have emerged recently suggesting that Bangladesh may take over as the hosts for the Asia Cup 2022. No concrete announcement has been made official till now.
The tournament will begin on Saturday, August 27 and will continue till Sunday, September 11.
India have won the tournament a record seven times and will look to increase their numbers ahead of the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Format
The format for the Asia Cup 2022 is still unclear as it will depend on the upcoming ICC events. The 2016 edition of the tournament was played in a T20I format, in preparation for the 2016 T20 World Cup. In the previous edition, the tournament was played in an ODI format, as a preparatory tournament for the 2019 ODI World Cup.
As the ICC T20 World Cup approaches in October, it may be assumed that the Asia Cup 2022 may once again be played in such a format.
Venue
As mentioned before, Sri Lanka was supposed to host the tournament this year. However, following economic and political unrest in the country, which forced widespread protests and demonstrators storming the Presidential Palace, forcing President Gotabaya Rajapaksha to flee the country, the tournament may be hosted somewhere else.
Reports have emerged that Bangladesh may be a likely candidate to host the tournament. No official announcement has been made for the confirmation of the venue, however, there is supposed to be one before the end of July.
Team list
Six teams will be participating at the Asia Cup 2022. Five of the participants have been confirmed while one will be announced following their qualification to the tournament.
India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and a qualifying team will be participating at the tournament.
