Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), on Saturday was appointed as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). BCCI Treasurer Thakur Arun Singh took to Twitter to share the news.

Singh wrote, “Congratulations Jay Shah on taking over as President of Asian Cricket Council. I’m sure ACC will achieve greater heights under ur leadership and the cricketers of the entire Asian region will benefit. My best wishes for a successful tenure.”

Before Shah, Nazmul Hussain, chief of Bangladesh Cricket Board’s  (BCB) was the president of the ACC, which is Asia’s regional administrative body.

Shah has been working overtime in recent days to decide the domestic calendar of Indian cricket as BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has undergone a successful angioplasty and is currently in hospital.

The BCCI Secretary on Friday informed that the board will be hosting Vinoo Mankad Trophy, under 19 limited-overs tournament, along with Vijay Hazare and senior women’s one-dayers. Shah’s announcement followed BCCI’s success in organising the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. 

Shah took the decision with an eye on the COVID-19 pandemic and the feedback of state bodies, the BCCI Secretary said in his letter to state associations, reported by news agency ANI.
