A woman married her cousin after the groom allegedly slapped her for dancing at a wedding celebration. The incident occurred in Panruti in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district.
On November 6, the bride, from Panruti, and the groom, from Periyakattupalayam, had their engagement ceremony. Their wedding was set for January 20 in the village of Kadampuliyur.
Their reception was set for January 19, one day before the wedding, as is customary in some areas.
The bride and groom danced joyfully to the music of the DJ. Things went bad, according to TOI, when the bride’s relative held the couple’s hands and danced with them.
When the cousin danced with his hands on their shoulders, the groom was irritated. The bride and her cousin were pushed away by the groom.
When the bride joined him on stage, the groom allegedly slapped her in front of everyone, according to the bride’s relatives. The bride made the decision to postpone the wedding, and her parents were supportive of her decision.
The bride’s family found a suitable groom among their relatives, and the wedding took place at the same time and place as before, but at a different location.

A complaint has been lodged with the Panruti all-women’s police station by the rejected groom. He claimed that when he asked the bride why she danced with other people, she answered that it was her choice. The bride’s relatives accused him of intimidating her, he claimed. They also allegedly abused and assaulted him, according to him.
The upset groom claimed that his family had spent Rs. 7 lakh on the wedding and was seeking compensation.
