Chirag Paswan has been removed from the post of national president of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), a day after his uncle, Pashupati Kumar Paras led a coup against him.

Surajbhan Singh has been appointed as the National Working President of the party, news agency ANI reported.

According to ANI, the party has also given him the responsibility of conducting elections for the appointment of the party’s new national president.

Pashupati Kumar Paras, Chirag Paswan’s uncle and the rebel leader, is expected to be chosen new national president later this week.

Paswan is expected to be ousted as the leader of the LJP parliamentary party and board by five of the six LJP Lok Sabha MPs who have rebelled — his uncle is the sixth — to pave way for his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras to be the new leader.

These developments come less than a year after Ram Vilas Paswan’s death, as the party he founded is headed for an imminent split.
