A teenager in Delhi’s Kapashera area was allegedly beaten up by a farmhouse owner over suspicion of theft and left on the road where he died after he was attacked and mauled by a pack of stray dogs, the police said.

The 16-year-old, Sandeep Mahto, and two of friends had gone to the farmhouse on Wednesday around 11 am when a guard saw them raised an alarm over suspicion that they could be thieves, police officer Pratap Singh was quoted as saying by ndtv.com. It was not clear why the men entered the farmhouse, the police said.

On hearing the commotion, the farmhouse owner, identified by police as Prakrati Sandhu, came out and caught hold of Mahto while his two friends managed to escape. Sandhu allegedly thrashed the teen with a stick, injuring him on his head, the police said, as quoted by the website.

A severely-injured Mahto, son of a driver, managed to run out but could not walk for long and collapsed on the road. As he lay there, a pack of stray dogs attacked him and bit. He died several hours later at the same spot, the police said.

Hours later, a pedestrian saw the body on the road and called the police around 4:30 pm. The police said that the farmhouse owner was on the run and a search for him was on. According to police, the farmhouse owner runs a transport company and lives in Gurugram.
