A Delhi resident took inspiration from the Bollywood film ‘Drishyam’ and staged an attack on himself to frame a neighbour he had allegedly killed, police said.

The culprit was identified as Amarpal, a resident of north Delhi’s Majnu Ka Tila, who was at odds with his neighbour Ombir, NDTV reported. He was arrested in connection with the murder of Ombir’s mother after the two had a fight on June 29.

He was out of jail on interim bail for 60 days.

According to a police statement, Amarpal initially tried to pressurise the witnesses, after failing at which, he decided to frame them in a false case.

His brother Guddu and cousin Anil were also part of the plot. Police said that he convinced the two to become part of the ploy by showing them the Bollywood movie ‘Drishyam’.

The Ajay Devgan starrer ‘Drishyam’ is a movie about Vijay who lives in a hilly village of Goa with his wife and two daughters. In a bizarre turn of events, a teenage boy goes missing and Vijay’s family is the prime suspect. What follows is his desperate attempt to save his family from the law.

According to police, Amarpal had started convincing people that Ombir’s family was in fact threatening him.

Amarpal was also found with a country-made pistol and bullet pellets so that the attack on him seems real but is not actually deadly. Anil’s brother-in-law was also brought in to be the one who shoots at Amarpal. Later they would tell the police that Ombir was responsible for the shooting.

The incident took place at the Khyber Pass in the North Delhi region. Shots were actually fired by Anil at Amarpal. Following this, police informed that Amarpal went to his friend’s place to tell him that “his enemies tried to kill him”.

Guddu and Manish are still on the loose while Anil has been taken into custody.
