Hindi film buffs
across the world were shocked when Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and filmmaker Kiran Rao announced their divorce on Saturday. In their 15 years together,
the celebrity couple has collaborated on numerous projects on film sets and
beyond.

Here’s a throwback
to the times when this creative couple collaborated to light up our screens and
our lives:

Lagaan (2001)

It was on the sets
of this Ashutosh Gowariker film, the maiden project of Aamir Khan productions,
that Amir met Kiran for the first time. Kiran was working as an assistant director
for the film. The film went on to get nominated in the 74th Academy Awards in
the foreign language film category.

Dhobi Ghat
(2010)
 

Kiran Rao’s
directorial debut, Dhobi Ghat was produced by Aamir Khan. Aamir also
played a central character in the film. Dhobi Ghat saw immense critical success
in India and was also longlisted for the 65th BAFTA awards in the ‘Best Film
Not in the English Language’ category.     

Peepli Live (2010) 

Co-produced by
Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, this satirical comedy directed by Anusha Rizvi focused
on the problems facing India’s farmers. Peepli Live was India’s official
entry for the 83rd Academy Awards Best Foreign Film category, although it was
not nominated.

Paani
Foundation 

Beyond
cinema, this is perhaps Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao’s most significant collaboration.
The foundation was set up in 2016 by the couple along with the core team of
television show Satyameva Jayate. The stated aim of the
foundation is to help make Maharashtra drought-free by empowering villages.

Lal Singh Chadda (Upcoming)

Aamir’s next film, Lal Singh Chadda is being co-produced by Kiran Rao.
Set to hit the theatres later this year, the film is the official remake of
acclaimed Hollywood film Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks. Lal
Singh Chadda will also feature Kareena Kapoor.
