Huthi rebels, a group backed by Iran, have claimed the responsibility of a drone attack on a Saudi airport, which left an aircraft on fire on Wednesday, reports AFP. The rebels said that the airport was used to launch attacks on Yemen.

Taking to Twitter, Yahya Sarie, spokesman for the Huthis’ armed wing, tweeted, “The UAV air force targeted the airfields of warplanes at Abha International Airport – which is used for military purposes to target the Yemeni people – with four drones.”

State-run Al-Ekhbariya television reported that a “cowardly criminal terrorist attack was launched against Abha International Airport in Saudi Arabia by the Huthi militia.”

There was no casualty but the rebels have stepped up attacks on the kingdom as well as on Riyadh-backed Yemeni forces after the United States moved last week to delist the Huthis as a terrorist group.
