The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked Solicitor General (SG), Tushar Mehta, that for how long the Centre will keep former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in detention, ANI reported. Under what order does the Centre wants to keep Mufti under detention, the top court asked.

A bench of justices S K Kaul and Hrishikesh Roy on Tuesday heard a plea filed by the former CM’s daughter Iltija Mufti, who has challenged her mother’s detention under the J-K Public Safety Act, PTI reported.

The court has asked the SG to file the reply within a week to the amended application filed by Iltija.

SG Mehta said he would address the court on these issues within a week.

Meanwhile, the apex court permitted Iltija and her uncle to meet Mehbooba Mufti in detention. The former CM was placed in detention in August last year, following the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5.

Article 370 granted special status to the former state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Supreme Court has set October 16 as the next date for hearing into the case.
