Former
Indian cricketer turned commentator Laxman Sivaramakrishnan on Wednesday joined the Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP) in Chennai, tweeted BJP Tamil Nadu.

Nadu, CT Ravi and L Murugan, the president of Tamil Nadu BJP were also present
during the ceremony.

The announcement comes ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, slated to be held next year.

Former leg-spinner, Sivaramakrishnan who made his Test debut at the age of 17 against West Indies, retired from international cricket in 1987.

Apart from being a part of the ICC’s Cricket Committee, Laxman has also been a cricket commentator and a bowling coach at the National Cricket Academy. 

 BJP, which is closely targeting Tamil Nadu for 2021 battle, managed to get Congress leader Khushbu Sundar on board in October.

“If the nation has to move forward, then we need somebody like Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take the country in the right direction,” she said after joining the BJP.  

The BJP is presently in alliance with the ruling AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu.
