The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesh and also the coming of the Lord from Kailash Parvat to earth. The festival is celebrated with the installation of Ganesh idols at homes and at various publicly created pandals. The puja is marked by chanting of Vedic hymns, daily prayers, and offering of sweets and modaks to the deity.
Lord Ganesh is worshipped by the Hindu community as Ganapati and Vinayaka, he is widely regarded as remover of obstacles and is considered a patron of arts and sciences and also of intellect and wisdom.
This year, the festival will be celebrated from August 22.
On the final day of the celebration, the idol is immersed in a river or a water body.
This year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the celebration of the festival will be muted and the governments of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and numerous other states have asked devotees to exercise caution while celebrating the festival.
