Halloween is the season of the spooky. And the holiday season
brings with it an urge to immerse oneself in horror films of all sorts and sizes.
As people get ready to binge-watch horror for “All Hallow’s Eve”, here’s a list
of spooky treats to get your Halloween groove going:
The Night House
“The Night House” ordinarily is just about a place to spend the night.
But the jump-scares in this David Bruckner chiller are surely not for the faint-hearted.
The foreboding atmosphere created by a thick layer of lakeshore fog, as well as
the massive darkness behind scream queen Rebecca Hall, subtly changes and moves
before the eyes like a phantom.

Host
“Host” is almost as far as high-concept genre exercises go. A
relatively new film, “Host” is about a haunting Zoom conference. At 56-minutes-long,
the film showcases some fantastic stunt work by the Lucky 13 action team. While
the film is not particularly overpowering in its depiction of life amid the real
horrors of the COVID-19 pandemic, writer/director Rob Savage’s supernatural
calling card is a pleasant way to spend an hour, roughly the length of a web-series
episode.

The Changeling
“The Changeling” for sure is a unique ghost story. The narrative
follows a man who has recently lost his family and is trying his best to restore
a degree of normalcy in his fractured life. At that time, he is unexpectedly
recruited by the ghost of the little child who is seeking closure of his own,
recent and untimely death.
May
“May” is a fantastic little horror film that revolves around the
life of a still-growing Lucky Mckee honing his craft, as well as Angela Bettis getting
on people’s radars and blowing them out of the water. The performances in the
film are beautiful to say the least.

Night of the Demons
It’s truly a shame that “Night of the Demons” does not feature
in many people’s Halloween must-watches. But the film really deserves a chance.
“Night of the Demons” is a 1988 American horror film directed by Kevin S.
Tenney and written and produced by Joe Augustyn. The video follows 10 high-school
seniors as they celebrate Halloween at an isolated mortuary. Their celebration
turns into a nightmare when, as a party game, they hold a séance and free the
demon that has imprisoned the crematorium.
