According to the National Testing Agency (NTA) statistics, the highest number of students who have qualified for the medical entrance exam NEET this year are from Uttar Pradesh. The second-highest number of qualifying students are from Maharashtra. 

The results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam (NEET) were announced on Friday in which over 7.7 lakh students qualified out of the registered 13.66 lakh candidates who appeared for the test. Students across India appear for NEET that is used for admission to MBBS courses in several colleges of the country. 

“Maximum number of candidates clearing the NEET exam this year are from Uttar Pradesh at 88,889 while Maharashtra is at the second spot with 79,974 candidates qualifying the exam,” an official said.

With 65,758 successful candidates, Rajasthan is in third place, followed by Kerala (59,404) and Karnataka (55,009). A total of 23,554 candidates have qualified for the NEET from Delhi, while 22,395 successful candidates are from Haryana.

Initially, Tripura was pegged as the state with the highest number of qualifying students, however, the NTA later rectified the data, citing “human error.”

The NTA official said the in comparison to male candidates, the number of “females qualifying the exam is higher” this year.

“While 4.27 lakh females have cleared the exam, the number of males qualifying the exam is 3.43 lakh. One out of the 4 transgender candidates who appeared for the exam, has been successful,” the official added.

After earlier being postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NEET was conducted on September 13 with strict precautions and social distancing guidelines in place.
