West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was injured in an alleged attack in Nandigram on Wednesday, released a video from hospital on Thursday urging supporters to exercise restrain and promising to be back in  action in the next 2-3 days.

Looking pale and lying on a bed with her foot in cast, the 66-year-old Trinamool chief said, “I request everybody to maintain peace and refrain from doing anything that can cause inconvenience to anybody. Giving details of her injuries, the Chief Minister said, “I sustained injuries in hand, leg and ligament. I was standing near the car when I was pushed against it, yesterday. I am on medication and will soon leave from Kolkata… I request everybody to maintain peace and refrain from doing anything that can cause inconvenience to anybody. I will resume work in the next 2-3 days.”

While the ruling party in the state has blamed the BJP for the attack, the saffron party has raised doubts about the incident.

Earlier, this morning, Abhishek Banerjee had tweeted a photo of Mamata lying on the hospital bed with the message, “@BJP4Bengal  Brace yourselves to see the power of people of BENGAL on Sunday, May 2nd. Get READY!!!”

Mamata was injured after she filing nomination papers from Nandigram. She had plans to stay overnight after filing her papers but was taken to a hospital in Kolkata, 130 km away, after the incident. Mamata Banerjee decided to contest from Nandigram against her former close aide Suvendu Adhikari left her to join the BJP. She had announced  that she would fight against Adhikari wherever he contested from.

West Bengal, where elections are being held  in eight phases beginning March 27, is witnessing a violent campaign with Trinamool and BJP at loggerheads. Earlier in December, BJP chief JP Nadda’s convoy had been attacked and the party had blamed the ruling Trinamool.
