The Bikaner Guwahati Express train derailed at Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, claiming the lives of five people and injuring 45. Rescue operations were carried out promptly and critically injured passengers were taken to the Jalpaiguri district hospital.
To aid the process, the Alipurduar District Magistrate offered assistance, saying “12 ambulances have been sent from Alipurduar. Civil defence team has been rushed to the spot. Arrangements to admit the injured made at Falakata and Birpara hospitals”.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed deep concern over this “tragic accident”.
