Indians brought up 2022 amid curfews, police patrolling and restrictions placed to curb the spread of the omicron COVID-19 variant in the country. While tourists in Goa could still manage to be a part of beach parties, celebrations in metros – Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore – were kept silent.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes saying, “Happy 2022! May this year bring abundance of joy and good health in everyone’s lives. May we keep scaling new heights of progress and prosperity, and work even harder to fulfil the dreams of our great freedom fighters.”
