India recorded 25,467 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry data showed on August 24, 2021. This pushed India’s active caseload to 319,551, which is the lowest in 156 days. The active cases account for less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.98%. This is the lowest since March 2020.

India also recorded 354 deaths in the last 24 hours. This took the total death to 435,110.

There were 39,486 recoveries in the last 24 hours nudging the recovery rate to 97.68% which is the highest since March 2020. To date, India has recorded 31,720,112 recoveries.

A reduction of 14373 cases has been recorded in the total number of active COVID-19 cases in a span of 24 hours.

Also, 16,47,526 tests were conducted on Monday, taking the cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 50,93,91,792.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,17,20,112, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.34%, the data stated.

At 1.90%, the weekly positivity rate was less than 3% for the last 60 days, while the daily positivity rate was (1.55%) less than 3% for the last 29 days.

To date, 50.93 crore tests have been conducted so far and 8.89 crore vaccine doses have been administered under Nationwide Vaccination Drive.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.

It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.

As of August 23, 2021, the country witnessed 135,962 deaths from Maharashtra, 37,145 from Karnataka, 34,709 from Tamil Nadu, 25,079 from Delhi, 22,792 from Uttar Pradesh, 19,494 from Kerala and 18,364 from West Bengal.

Earlier, the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) said that a third COVID-19 could peak in India in October. To counter it, it has called for immediate steps to deal with its impact. The NIDM in its latest report said that the third wave was likely to hit India between July 15 and October 13.
