India recorded 357,229 new cases of COVID-19, taking the tally of coronavirus infections in the nation to 20,282,833. This is the third consecutive day that India has recorded a slight dip in daily cases after a surge in the latter half of April.

The death toll increased to 2,22,408 with 3,449 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am on the Health ministry website showed.

India had recorded 4,01,993 new COVID-19 cases on May 1, 3,92,488 fresh cases on May 2, and 3,68,147 cases on May 3.

On May 1, the country kicked off its third phase of COVID-19 vaccination programme for all adults above the age of 18. Since starting its inoculation drive on January 16, at least 15,89,32,921 have received a single shot of the COVID-19 vaccine in India.
