India on Wednesday recorded 362,727 new cases of COVID-19, pushing the tally to 23,703,665, the Union Health Ministry’s data released on Thursday showed. As many as 4,120 COVID patients died in the past 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 258,317.

There are 3,710,525 active coronavirus cases in the country, while 19,734,823 have recovered.

India is reeling under an aggressive second wave of COVID-19 that has brought the country’s healthcare sector to a breaking point. Shortages of medical oxygen, hospital beds and COVID vaccines are being reported from across the country.

The mass inoculation drive against the disease started on January 16, the third phase of which began on May 1. Every person above the age of 18 is eligible to get vaccinated.

As many as 177,214,256 people have been vaccinated, as per Health Ministry’s latest count.
