India recorded 53,256 new COVID-19 cases and 1,422 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry’s data released on Monday showed. The country’s infection tally now stands at 2,99,35,221 and the death toll at 3,88,135.

Meanwhile, as of Monday, there are 7,02,887 active cases in the country. As many as 2,88,44,199 COVID-19 patients have recovered, including 78,190 who were discharged on Sunday. 

As many as 39,24,07,782 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus till June 20, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) showed. Of these, 13,88,699 were tested on Sunday. India started its mass COVID-19 vaccination drive on January 16 and as per the latest count, 28,00,36,898 have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

After recording over 400,000 cases daily, India is now witnessing a dip, prompting states to lift the COVID-induced restrictions.   

The Ministry of Health said on Sunday that the Recovery Rate has increased to 96.27%. The weekly Positivity Rate remained below 5%, currently at 3.43%.
