India’s COVID-19 tally touched 1,20,95,855 on Tuesday after 56,211 people tested positive for coronavirus on Monday, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The death toll from COVID-19 touched 1,62,114 after 271 people died in the past 24 hours. 

There are currently 5,40,720 active cases of coronavirus in India. Around 37,028 recovered from the COVID-19 disease on Sunday, taking the tally of recovered coronavirus cases to 1,13,93,021. 

In the last two weeks, India has witnessed a surge in COVID-19 infections, with Maharashtra being the worst-hit and accounting for over 80% of new cases, reports say. On Monday, the state reported 31,643 new cases, taking the overall tally to 27,45,518.

The Indian Council of Medical Research on Tuesday said that 7,85,864 samples for COVID-19 were tested on Monday in the nation and that a total of 24,26,50,025 samples have been tested in India up to March 29. 

According to the union health ministry; more than 2,60,653 vaccination doses were administered in the last 24 hours and 6,05,30,435 vaccine shots have been administered across the country until now.
