India registered 3,993 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Monday, according to the data released by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday. The country also recorded 108 fatalities in 24 hours.
The new addition to India’s COVID-19 tally has pushed the total cases to 4,29,71,308 while the total death total currently stands at 5,15,210.

With the speed of the omicron variant of COVID-19 slowing down, India’s active caseload of coronavirus has dropped to 49,948 on Tuesday, the Union Health Ministry announced.
The active cases comprise 0.12% of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate further improved to 98.68%, the ministry said, according to reports from PTI.
A reduction of 4,170 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded as 0.46% while the weekly positivity rate was 0.68%, according to the ministry.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,24,06,150 and the case fatality rate was recorded as 1.20%. The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive have exceeded 179.13 crores.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

India crossed the three crore mark on May 4, adding another one crore on June 23 last year, according to reports from PTI.
COVID-19 also seems to be largely slowing down on a global scale, with multiple western countries — including the United States and much of Europe — scrapping their coronavirus restrictions.
