India reported 8,895 new COVID-19 cases and 2796 deaths in the last 24 hours, data from the union health ministry confirmed on Sunday. India’s total infection tally now stands at 3,45,72,523, with the death toll pushed to 47,33,26. India’s Active caseload stands at 99,155.

6,918 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,40,60,774. The national recovery rate stands at 98.35%, the highest since March 2020. The cumulative testing tally across the country has crossed 63.94 crores, with the daily positivity rate recorded at 0.73% – below 2% for the last 62 days. The weekly positivity rate (0.80%) has stayed under 1% for the last 21 days.

The government administered 1,04,18,707 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine across the country in the last 24 hours, taking India’s total vaccination count to  1,27,61,83,065. India’s mass vaccination campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 16. India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
