Gujarat
Titans
registered their second successive win on Saturday when they defeated
Delhi Capitals by 14 runs at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.
Chasing a 172-run target, Delhi Capitals were well in contention in the match
at 118 for 4 with DC skipper Rishabh Pant at the crease. However, in the 15th
over, Lockie Ferguson picked up two wickets to rattle DC. First, he dismissed
Pant for 43 and then four balls later removed Axar Patel. The double blow
proved costly for DC as they lost the match.

After
the win, captain Hardik Pandya ushered praise on pacer Ferguson and said that
the over changed the momentum of the match.

“Not
bad, to be honest. Very happy with the way everyone is stepping up on the right
occasion. With the kind of attack we have, we thought we might be 10-15 runs
short sometimes but with the attack we have, we can restrict them to 20-25 runs
short. That over from Lockie changed the momentum,” said Gujarat Titans
captain Hardik Pandya in the post-match presentation ceremony.

However,
despite the win, Pandya said his team needs to do better in the next games and put some more runs on the board while batting. “To be honest, I felt we were
10-15 runs short. I thought par was 185, to be honest. When Rishabh was there,
I thought the game was in the balance,” said Hardik Pandya.

Gujarat
Titans, meanwhile, suffered a blow when their pacer Varun Aaron was
taken off the attack. Aaron could bowl only one over. Hardik Pandya, however,
did not reveal the cause of the bowler’s discomfort.

To
replace Aaron, Pandya had to give the ball to all-rounder Vijay Shankar and
Rahul Tewatia and they conceded 36 runs in the three overs bowled between them.

“Varun
[Aaron] felt something happened to him. We were one bowler short so we had to
finish the game on the 19th over. The courage Tewatia and Vijay showed, when
they had not been told to bowl, they stepped up and helped us to win the
game,” said Pandya.

GT
on Saturday got off to a slow start. But a steady innings from Shubman Gill
helped them post enough runs on board to get better off DC. Gill scored 84
off 46 balls and hit six boundaries and as many sixes to take his team to 171/6
in 20 overs.

“Fantastic,
this is the Shubman Gill we all want to see. The kind of confidence he’s
carrying is going to come to all the batters,” said Pandya.

Gujarat
Titans will next face Punjab Kings on April 8.
