Ahead of Sunday’s evening game of IPL 2022, Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the match against Chennai Super Kings due to a groin injury. Rashid Khan stepped in as a stand-in skipper and won the toss against CSK captain Ravindra Jadeja

Ahead of the match, Hardik Pandya took to social media to share a photo with CSK talisman MS Dhoni. Hardik called Dhoni the “main man”. 

Hardik Pandya has made his comeback to competitive cricket in the ongoing season of IPL after battling injuries over the past two years. The all-rounder was enjoying his stint as a Gujarat Titans captain. Table topper GT faced CSK at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. GT won four matches and lost one so far.

CSK are at present struggling with one win in five games. The Chennai side is occupying the ninth position on the points table.

In their solitary win against RCB in their previous game, Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube notched up blistering fifties.

Hardik has been leading GT from the front. He is contributing both with the bat and bowl. He is also bowling a full quota of four overs, having recovered from a back injury.

So far, Hardik has notched up 228 runs in five matches, including an unbeaten 87 in the previous match against the Rajasthan Royals. He has also picked up four wickets.

Prior to the IPL 2022 auction, Hardik Pandya was released by the Mumbai Indians. He won four IPL titles during his time with MI. He was drafted in by GT ahead of the mega auction.

Dhoni, on the other hand, stepped down as captain of CSK ahead of the start of the season, handing over the baton to Ravindra Jadeja.
