Virat Kohli has
been going through a torrid time. He is not in form. On Wednesday, he was bowled
by Moeen Ali after scoring 30 off 33 balls.

But before
getting out, he was involved in a horrible runout. Five balls before Kohli was
dismissed, in an example of miscommunication, Glenn Maxell was removed. In the final
delivery of the ninth over of RCB’s innings against CSK in Pune, Kohli stepped out and defended this away-turner
towards cover. Maxwell stopped for a while in confusion and fell short of the
crease as he was run out by a joint effort of Robin Uthappa and MS Dhoni.

This is the
fourth run out in IPL 2022 involving Kohli (twice out self, twice partner out),
the joint-most for a player this season.

Both Kohli and
Maxwell have been out of form. While Kohli scored 216 runs in 11 matches,
Maxwell could accumulate only 160 runs in eight matches.

RCB, on
Wednesday, were restricted to 173 for 8 by CSK. Maheesh Theekshana took three wickets while Moeen Ali got a
brace.

Mahipal Lamror
was the top-scorer as he smashed a 27-ball 42 while Dinesh Karthik (26 not out
off 17) hit some lusty blows towards the end to help RCB go past the 170-run
mark.

Kohli and du
Plessis (38 off 22) opened the innings. Captain du Plessis batted with
authority as he pummelled the inexperienced pace duo of Mukesh Choudhary and
Simarjeet Singh in the Powerplay.

The opening pair
extracted 57 runs in the first six overs, RCB’s highest Powerplay total this
season.

The CSK bowlers
did a tremendous job after an expensive start.

Lamror and Rajat
Patidar (21) shared a quick 44-run stand but Dhoni re-introduced pace in the
form of Pretorius and the South African struck in his very first delivery,
getting rid of Patidar.

Lamror was
dropped on 33 by Jadeja, but the batter couldn’t capitalise on the reprieve as
he became Theekshana’s first victim in the 19th over The Sri Lankan then went
on to dismiss compatriot Wanindu Hasaranga and Shahbaz Ahmed.
