KBC Offline Quiz (November 16, 2021): Which among the following Sikh Gurus introduced the Gurmukhi Script?
Guru Angad Deva
Guru Gobind Singh
Guru Arjun Singh
Guru Harrai
Answer: Guru Angad Deva
Guru Angad (March 31, 1504 – March 29, 1552) was the second of Sikhism’s ten gurus. Nanak gave Lehna the name Angad (“my own limb”) and chose Angad as the second Sikh Guru.
Guru Angad Sahib ji led the Sikh tradition after Nanak’s death in 1539. In Sikhism, he is remembered for formalising and adopting the Gurmukhi script. He began the process of compiling Nanak’s hymns and added 62 or 63 hymns of his own. He chose his disciple Amar Das as his successor and the third Guru of Sikhism, rather than his own son.
Lehna was a Hindu religious teacher and priest before becoming a disciple of Guru Nanak and following the Sikh way of life as Guru Angad ji. He later renounced the Sanatan way of life after displaying deep and loyal service to his Guru in Kartarpur for about six to seven years.
