Manu Smriti also known as Manava-Dharma-Sahastra, is the ancient and most authoritative book of Hinduism. It explains the social structure from the times of Aryans. 

It is attributed to the legendary first man and lawgiver, Manu. The received text dates from circa 100 CE.  

The Manu Smriti describes to Hindus their dharma or duties as a member of one of the four social classes and engaged in one of the four stages of life. It has 12 chapters which contain total 2,694 stanzas.
