Numerous multi-million tech companies in the United States are now being headed by people of Indian origin. Google, Twitter, Microsoft and Adobe are just some of the examples.

Twitter is the most recent social media company to get a CEO of Indian origin. Parag Agarwal took the took position for the micro-blogging site on November 29, 2021 after Jack Dorsey stepped down.

“Deep gratitude for @jack and our entire team, and so much excitement for the future. Here’s the note I sent to the company. Thank you all for your trust and support,” Parag Agarwal wrote after taking over.

While many of these Indian-origin tech experts have graduated from a variety of IITs, some pursued their studies at other institutions.

Twitter CEO graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Sundar Pichai — the CEO of Google — completed his education at IIT Kharagpur. IBM CEO Arvind Krishna went to IIT Kanpur.

Shantanu Narayen (Adobe) and Satya Nadella (Microsoft) went to Osmania University and Manipal Institute of Technology respectively.

Parag Agrawal became the youngest CEO among the S&P 500 companies. Agrawal, who succeeded Twitter founder Jack Dorsey on Monday, is 37 years old, the same age as Meta Platform Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg.  

According to data compiled by Bloomberg, Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Inc, is the oldest CEO in the S&P 500 at 91 years old. As per the data, the average age of a CEO among the 500 largest companies was around 58 years.
