Ganesh Vasudev Mavalankar popularly known as Dadasaheb was the first speaker of the Lok Sabha, the lower or people’s house of the parliament. Dadasaheb was also the speaker of the Constituent Assembly of India, the body behind the formation of the lengthiest constitution in the world.

He won the first general elections in independent India in May 1952 from Ahmedabad. He was representing the Indian National Congress and was elected the Speaker of the first Lok Sabha.  

Mavalankar was an independence activist and was also the President of the Central Legislative Assembly.

Mavalankar, along with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel provided pace to the educational movement and Gujarat and formed many educational societies. He is the co-founder of the Ahmadabad Education Society along with Kasturbhai Lalbhai and Amritlal Hargovindas. He also proposed the establishment of a Gujarat University-like institution in 1920.
