Samidha is written by Sadhana Amte, also known as Sadhana Tai Amte. She was the widow of social worker and the winner of Raman Magsaysay award , the late Baba Amte. She was also a social activist. She was a role model with her compassion for the poor. She helped Baba Amte in setting up the rehabilitation centre named ‘Maharogi Sewa Samiti’, a home for leprosy patients and other disabled people. 

She belonged to an orthodox family and was forced to stop studying after matriculation. She described her story in her Autobiography “Samittu”. Her autobiography was translated into several Indian languages. Her life was changed when she got married to Baba Amte in 1946. Baba changed her name to Sadhana from Indu Guleshashtri.  Tai recently passed away because of a prolonged disease. She took her last breath at Anandwan in Chandrapur district, Maharashtra.
