An MP/MLA court in Kolkata on Monday forwarded a defamation case of Union Home Minister Amit Shah filed by TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee to the Metropolitan Magistrate Court over jurisdiction issues. The court had summoned Shah, either personally or through counsel on Monday.

It took note of Shah’s lawyer Brajesh Jha’s submission that the mentioned address of the home minister was incorrect. Shah was summoned after Abhishek‘s lawyer Sanjay Basu alleged that the home minister had made certain defamatory statements against the TMC MP and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew during a BJP rally in Kolkata.

The CBI on Sunday reached Abhishek’s residence to serve notice to his wife, Rujira Banerjee, to join probe in coal pilferage case. PTI quoted sources saying that CBI had carried out a fresh round of searches in connection with the case on Friday. It had registered an FIR in November last year against the alleged kingpin of the pilferage racket Manjhi alias Lala and several others.

A vigorous campaign has been launched by the BJP in Bengal ahead of the assembly elections in April-May. On the other hand, Abhishek plays one of the key roles in the ruling TMC’s counter-attack.
