Singer, rapper Hridesh Singh, also known as Yo Yo Honey Singh, on Friday, spoke up about the domestic violence allegations levelled against him by his wife Shalini Talwar. She has filed a domestic violence case against him and sought Rs 10 crore compensation under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, saying she felt like a “farm animal…being treated cruelly”.
In a statement, Yo Yo Honey Singh discredited the allegations but said that he will speak no further as “the matter is sub-judice before the Court of Law.”
The rapper said that he released the statement only because his parents and sister have been dragged into the matter.
“I have never issued a public statement or press note in the past despite being subjected to harsh criticism for my lyrics, speculation on my health, & negative media coverage in general. However, I see no merit in maintaining a studied silence this time because some of the allegations have been directed at my family — my old parents and younger sister — who have stood by me during some very difficult and trying times and comprise my world. The allegations are cynical and defaming in nature,” he wrote in a statement.
“I have full faith in the judicial system of this country, and I am confident that the truth will be out soon. I am confident that justice will be served, and honesty will win,” his statement added.
“The allegations are subject to be proven and the Hon’ble Court has provided me with an opportunity to reply to such allegations. In the meantime, I humbly request my fans and public at large to not draw any conclusion about me and my family until the Hon’ble Court pronounces a verdict after hearing both the sides. I am confident that justice will be served, and honesty will win,” his statement read.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tania Singh has issued notice to Yo Yo Honey Singh and directed him not to alienate or create any third party rights in their jointly owned property in Noida or dispose of his wife’s jewellery and other articles.
Shalini Talwar, Singh’s wife, said that she was subjected to numerous incidents of physical, verbal, mental, and emotional abuse at the hands of her husband and his family.
Shalini, 38, claimed that Honey Singh beat her many times in the last few years and she has been constantly living in fear.
Honey Singh has been given time till August 28 to file a reply in the matter.
